TheDGT.org Presents Tucson City Council Member Nikki Lee

March 13, 2023 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM MST

Free

Our Featured Speaker will be Nikki Lee, who is running for re-election this year to her second term on the Tucson City Council.

Councilwoman Nikki Lee represents Ward 4 on the Tucson City Council. Nikki is an Air Force Veteran, Executive and Leadership Coach, and Mother of three. Raised in a small town in rural IL with a current population of just over 1,600, Nikki grew up in a working-class family. Her father is a retired miner and active preacher and her mother spent years owning and operating a small business.

Following in the footsteps of her family members, Nikki enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. As eager as she was to serve her country, she also knew that the Air Force would afford her opportunities that she would not have otherwise had access to. The United States Air Force allowed Nikki to combine her passion for technology with her desire to serve.

Nikki met her husband Antoan when they were both stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. They fell in love with each other and Tucson, and when they left the Air Force, they made a home here to start their family.

Nikki worked in cybersecurity and technology fields within the defense industry for 20 years and spent several years working in the agriculture industry. She currently works at The Arbinger Institute, where she focuses on supporting state and local governments with culture transformation.

She used the GI bill to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, with a minor in Entrepreneurship/Small Business Management and an MBA in IT Management, with honors.

About her campaign, Nikki said:

“I have had the privilege of serving as the City of Tucson Ward 4 Councilwoman since 2019.

When my husband and I decided to raise our family in Tucson, we did it because we fell in love with this city. But even with a Master’s degree in business and technology, I had a hard time finding a locally-based job here. I’m running for re-election to the Tucson City Council because I want to help provide better opportunities for people at all levels in our city. That includes supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses, creating a strong, diversified economy and job market, and helping our community realize growth opportunities in a sustainable way. I hope you’ll join me in my vision for a smarter, stronger, more sustainable Tucson.”

About herself, Nikki says:

“I am a US Air Force veteran, STEM professional, wife, and mom of 3. Raised in a small town in rural Illinois, I grew up in a working-class family. My father worked in mining for 45 years and has been preaching for 25. My mother owned and operated a small business for many years and now works at a local bank near my hometown.

Following in the footsteps of many of my family members, I enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. As eager as I was to serve our country, I also knew that the Air Force would afford me opportunities that I would not have otherwise had access to. The United States Air Force allowed me to combine my passion for technology with my desire to serve.

I met my husband Antoan while we were both stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base 15 years ago. We fell in love with each other and Tucson, and when we separated from the Air Force we made a home here and started our family.”
