Joyce Jones-Ivey is a retired nurse who proudly served patients for 42 years. She was elected to the Oro Valley Town Council in 2018. She will speak about how to influence your local government. Joyce aims to keep the town community-oriented, fiscally sound, and environmentally and financially sustainable. She is focused on supporting a balanced budget, youth sport and family activities at Naranja Park, and wilderness arts.

Joyce Jones-Ivey was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Altadena, California with seven siblings. Her parents instilled her and her siblings with the values of hard work, honesty, integrity, and treating others with dignity and respect. She graduated from John Muir High School in 1969 and immediately embarked upon her nursing education.

Jones-Ivey is a registered nurse practitioner. She has also been a sales and contracts negotiator for Boehringer Mannheim. In 2004, she moved to Harris County, Texas, and started Ali’s Arts and Crafts, a small business, making specialty jewelry while working at LBJ Medical Center.

Jones-Ivey served on the Board of Directors for The Community Clinic, Los Angeles from 1978-1980. She also served on Women in Action, a political action group in Pasadena that worked to get the community involved in local government and assist candidates to be elected to office in the City of Pasadena.

She was President and Treasurer of the Pasadena, California Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, whose goals were aimed at improving the education and social lives of its members. She also served as Executive Board Member and Chair of Community Volunteers for the Junior League of Pasadena.

Jones-Ivey served as a volunteer nurse for her son’s high school football team and as a leader of the Women’s Bible Group at Copperfield Church. She has been an active member of Newcomers of Tucson, has served as a volunteer at Centennial Hall since 2016, and she is an active member of Legislative District 11.

Jones-Ivey retired from nursing in 2016 and moved to Oro Valley. She is married to Jesse, a retired Los Angeles police officer. They are the proud owners of Cali, a rescued shepherd mix. Their son, Adam Ivey, is a former Deputy Constable in Harris County, Texas.
