The Danger of Drinking the Trump Kool-Aid

Recently a reader wrote to the Arizona Daily Star spewing bogus claims about what would happen if Biden were elected. She claimed all manner of bad things would happen financially if he were to be elected. For instance (without supplying any facts) she claimed that he would: Raise taxes by $3.4 trillion. Raise spending by 5.4 trillion. Raise corporate taxes from 21% to 28%. Spending proposals would cause the biggest Federal budget increase in half a century. Raising corporate taxes would send American jobs overseas. Let’s look at each point and decide for ourselves. The Trump administration has spent $3 [...]

Listen: Trump More Likely to Goof Up at Tuesday’s Debate

“People are dying, tens of thousands of people are out of work—he’s embarrassing,” is not only the quote of the year from former Hillary Clinton senior adviser Philippe Reines, but also sums up how he, Rick Wilson, Molly Jong-Fast, and Lincoln Project co-founder Mike Madrid feel about Donald Trump’s dwindling support among his own base. To make matters worse for the president, he is set to debate Joe Biden for the first time Tuesday night, and he doesn’t have that same 2016 anger and energy he drummed up to defeat Hillary Clinton. In this new members-only bonus episode of The New [...]

A Little Humor to Remind Us to Laugh

On President Trump's refusal to commit to a peaceful transition of power if he loses the election "Well, so much for that Nobel Peace Prize," - Jimmy Kimmel "So, the president of the United States won't commit to leaving office if he loses the election. Ah, you'll have to excuse me, I think I left the stove on in New Zealand, and I'd like to stick my head in it. I'm joking, obviously - New Zealand won't let our planes land there." - Stephen Colbert "I bet even if Joe Biden wins they're going to find Trump in the White [...]

Outrageous: Trump Disparages Fallen American Soldiers

I first saw reports Thursday night about an article in The Atlantic by Jeffrey Goldberg about the president’s reaction to and behavior around our country’s war dead and those who have borne the human cost of our conflicts. Goldstein’s article points out one more time just how Mr. Trump’s personality, psychoses, and intellectual limitations disqualify him for any elective office, much less the presidency of our United States. Goldberg’s article is a must-read for anyone concerned about the man’s suitability to serve another term, but I want to dive into two stories recounted in the article. The Atlantic: The president [...]

Donald Trump vs. the Constitution with Robert McWhirter on Aug. 17

As Trump claims to “make America great again,” he finds himself repeatedly bumping up against the greatest charter of government on earth: The United States Constitution. Attorney Robert J. McWhirter discussed the president's repeated defiance of the Constitution answering questions like: What is the difference between Adolph Hitler and Donald Trump? Can Trump really cancel the election? Is Trump a traitor? What if Trump refuses to leave the white house if he loses the election? How many presidents have lost the popular vote but won in the Electoral College? Can Trump be indicted after he leaves office? [...]

Report on Today’s Hispanic and Labor Councils at the Democratic Convention

This morning, as a National Delegate, I attended the Hispanic and the Labor Councils on Day One the Democratic National Convention on August 17, 2020. The following are my notes on the best comments by the speakers at the meetings. Hispanic Caucus meeting, 9 am Julian Castro, former HUD Director under Obama The Latino community is in "a state of emergency," because of COVID, said Julian Castro, former HUD director under Obama, speaking at the Labor Caucus meeting. Latinos are essential workers -- in the farm fields, meat packing plans, groceries, fast food places, and the hospitality industry. [...]

Video: Trump’s Own Staff Excoriate the President

The video quotes, with clips of Trump in action: Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who calls Trump a “f….ing moron.“ Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis who said Trump “tries to divide us.” Former Chief of Staff John Kelly who called Trump “an idiot.” Former National Economic Policy Council head Gary Cohn who said Trump “was a professional liar.” Former Trump Organization Senior Vice President Barbara Res said Trump “thinks he’s God.” Former Trump Alt-Right advisor Steve Bannon said Trump “is like an eleven-year-old child.” The video then shows clips of Kelly saying “I think we need to look harder at who we elect” and former National Security Advisor John Bolton stating “I don’t  think he’s fit [...]

Trump’s Payroll Tax Deferral Raises Red Flags on Social Security

President Trump announced four executive actions, including a temporary payroll tax cut. While illegal, they are also a backhanded way to defund Social Security and Medicare. The president’s understanding of the reason for payroll deductions is in itself puzzling, or he understood it perfectly well, and his real intention is another try at defunding Social Security and Medicare.  Temporarily eliminating the payroll tax and ignoring Congress’ power of the purse on funding unemployment insurance will do nothing to help Americans recover from the coronavirus. But what it will do is withhold funds needed to fund our Federal Government, our State [...]
